Community Development

 


This component of the Project's work covers projects which address social needs, develop a sense of community awareness, and enable people to act together in order to support themselves and their wider community.

 

 

As shown above, addressing these various needs in an integrated way is far more effective than in isolation.  The programmes in this component of the work also address many of the non-physical needs of those living in the Project area - which demonstrates the 'holistic' approach of the Project's work.

 

A list of programmes in this component includes:

 

 

1.Community organization and awareness creation
 

Human development by conscientizing the community through:
a) Regular community meetings
b) Group interactive discussions (i.e regular neighborhood meetings monthly and quarterly)
c) Individual mentoring (e.g. of Education Extension Workers, 'EEWs')
METHODOLOGY - Brainstorming, role play, sketches etc.

2.Child and Youth Programmes 
 

2.1 EDUCATION
a1)  Kindergarten 3-6 year olds
a2)  Mentally Retarded Children (included in the same complex)
b)  Elementary, Junior High School and skill training.
c)  Literacy with "Big Sister-Big Brother" educating illiterate school age children up to 14 years of age and helping 8th Grade students prepare for National examinations
d)  Library Service
 

2.2 YOUTH REHABILITATION AND SKILL TRAINING
a)  Rehabilitation, Correction and Counselling of young people with anti-social and deviant behavior
b)  Vocational Training to give employment opportunity
 

2.3 EDUCATIONAL & RECREATIONAL PROGRAMME
a) Youth Centre for sport, drama, music and cafeteria
b) Moral ethical education once a week


3. Old People
 

a) Day Care - includes the provision of basic necessities like one meal a day and basic medical service – also care for the homebound.
a1) Income Generation 
a2) Recreation 
b) Home Care -including "Food on Foot"
b1) Basic necessity provision and home care. 


4. Disabled Person's Programme
 

a) Physically Handicapped
a1) Blind and deaf, children and youth
a2) Training in Income Generation
b) Mentally Retarded
b1) Education
b2) Training


5. Income Generation & Job Creation
 

6. Coordination of Education Extension Workers (EEWs)
