Life expectancy in Ethiopia is reported to be 51 years. The World Bank quoting 1998 UNDP's Human Development Reports on statistics of the Ethiopian status affirms that: 


"19 percent of employees in the public sector earns $ 25 per month. Only 2.5 percent earn above $ 100 monthly.


More than 87 percent of the primary school age population was out of school in 1994 (compared to 80 percent in 1989). Physician/Population ratio stands at 1 to 38,365 with one nurse for every 14,860 persons. Hospital bed per population ratio stands at 1 to 4,797."
